Meet Aspire’s Head of Client Engagement and Marketing

In this week’s ‘Meet the Team’ series, we talk to Emma Bond, Head of Client Engagement and Marketing at Aspire, to learn what she does each day and what she loves most about her role.

What is your background?

After graduating from university a few years ago with a degree in Business Management and Marketing, I started my career as an insurance broker. Initially, I arranged Kidnap and Ransom insurance for high-profile clients, which was very exciting! Later, I transitioned to managing the marketing for a small insurance broker.

Then, in 2020, I joined Aspire Procurement Training to help drive the company’s growth. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind, but an incredible journey. For instance, I’ve been involved in everything from launching a new website and rebrand to improving the sales process for our clients. Overall, it’s been a lot of fun.

How did you end up in your current role?

I always knew I wanted to work in Marketing. However, I found that I missed ‘selling’ products in my previous role. I’ve always thought of myself as a strong negotiator, and I love speaking to clients. So, when I saw a job opening for a Business Development and Marketing Executive, I knew it would be the best of both worlds—and I was right! As a result, I found a job that lets me use my degree while working with a fantastic team.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I work remotely full-time. Often, I speak with companies via Zoom and Teams to discuss CIPS, our apprenticeships, and our commercial courses. My role is to ensure our clients have a great customer journey. In many ways, I am the “first impression.” I handle new inquiries, host calls, and support those who want to register with Aspire. Additionally, another key part of my job is managing the marketing. For example, I create campaigns, write blogs, and design marketing materials. Every day is busy at Aspire.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really enjoy exhibiting at events. For example, last year, we were at the CIPD Festival of Work and the CIPD Event 2022, which was great fun. Our next event is Procurex National at The NEC in Birmingham. While exhibitions can be tiring, it’s fantastic to meet so many professionals and engage in face-to-face interactions.

What is the hardest part of your job?

I think the hardest part of my job is going out to tender for larger opportunities. To me, Aspire is the best CIPS training provider out there. However, the tough part is capturing everything I love about this company and fitting it into such a small word count.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying CIPS or pursuing an apprenticeship in procurement?

Procurement is a fantastic career to get into, and CIPS is a globally recognised qualification—it can open many doors. Moreover, one thing I’ve learned in my role is that it’s never too late to start studying something new or make a career change. Therefore, my advice is to take that first step and book a call with one of our team members today!
