Meet Aspire’s Head of Client Engagement and Marketing

In this week’s series of ‘Meet the Team’ we talk to Emma Bond, Head of Client Engagement and Marketing at Aspire to find out what she gets up to each day and what she loves most about her role.

What is your background?
I graduated in University with a degree in Business Management and Marketing a few years ago. I started my career as an insurance broker arranging Kidnap and Ransom insurance for high profile clients which was very exciting and moved on to managing the marketing for a small insurance broker.

I joined Aspire Procurement Training in 2020 to progress the growth of Aspire. It’s been such a whirlwind since I’ve started, helping implement change but it’s been incredible to be a part of the journey. From managing the launch of a new website and rebrand to improving the sales journey for our clients, it’s been so much fun.

How did you fall into the role you are in now?
I knew that I always wanted to work in Marketing but I found that I missed ‘selling’ products in my previous role. I’ve always thought of myself as a strong negotiator and I love speaking to clients, so when I saw the job advertisement looking for a Business Development and Marketing Executive, I thought this would be the best of both worlds – and I was right! I found a job which allows me to utilise my degree, whilst working with a fantastic team.

What does a day look like for you in your role?
I work remotely full-time but am often speaking to companies via Zoom and Teams to discuss CIPS, our apprenticeships and commercial courses. My role is to ensure our clients have an excellent customer journey and I guess I am the “first impression”.  I deal with new enquiries, host calls and offer support for those who wish to register with Aspire. Another integral part of my role is to manage the marketing. From creating campaigns, writing blogs, designing marketing material, every day is a busy day at Aspire.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy exhibiting at events. Last year we exhibited at the CIPD Festival of Work and CIPD Event 2022 which was great fun. The next event we have coming up is Procurex National at The NEC, Birmingham. Exhibition shows are always tiring but it’s fantastic to speak to so many different professionals and be involved with face-to-face interaction.

What is the hardest part of your job?
I think my hardest part of my job is going out to tender for larger opportunities. In my eyes, Aspire is the best CIPS training provider out there and the tough part is conveying everything I know and love in this company and reducing it to such a small word count.

What advice would you give to somebody considering studying CIPS or pursuing an apprenticeship in procurement?
Procurement is a great career to get into and CIPS is a globally recognised qualification – it can open a lot of doors. One thing I’ve learnt from my current role is that it’s never too late to start studying something new or pursue a change in career. My advice?
