The Level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship has been officially renamed to the Level 4 ‘Procurement and Supply Chain Practitioner’ Apprenticeship Standard. This change reflects the appropriateness of the apprenticeship for both the public and private sector.
The knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) have been increased and aligned to 10 themes of procurement capability, including sustainability.
The major change, however, has been seen in the endpoint assessment (EPA). In our view, there has been a positive move to put the L4M8 final exam into the EPA, meaning that the apprentice will now complete the CIPS Level 4 Diploma and the apprenticeship at the same time. The submission of a portfolio of evidence will also encourage apprentices to submit high standards of evidence of application of the KSBs. According to feedback from existing apprentices, the removal of the 5000-word project is a good decision.
In addition to the new title, the funding band for the Level 4 Procurement and Supply Practitioner Apprenticeship has been increased to £10,000.
These changes will only apply to learners who started their apprenticeships from 15th October 2024. Apprentices enrolled onto the Level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply apprenticeship standard, will continue with the same Training Plan, funding plan and EPA format as presented at enrolment.
At Aspire, we welcome the changes, believing that they reflect the skills sought by employers in all sectors.
This updated apprenticeship standard will continue to offer a solid foundation for professionals looking to advance their careers in procurement and supply chain management.
